Legal Manager at a Financial Service Company in Vientiane, Laos

The Role
This role involves providing strategic legal advice and guidance to senior management and other departments on a wide range of legal issues including contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, licensing, and risk management

Description
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, agreements, MOUs, SLA, employment contracts, and other legal documents pertinent to financial services operations
- Ensuring the company’s policies and operations comply with local regulations, financial laws, and industry best practices.
- Liaising with government bodies, regulatory agencies, and external legal counsel on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters.
- Monitoring changes in laws and regulations affecting the financial sector and advising the company on necessary adaptations.
- Managing litigation, disputes, investigations, and risk assessment to mitigate legal exposure.•
- Conducting legal research, preparing legal opinions, and maintaining proper legal documentation and filings•
- Implementing corporate governance strategies and providing legal training and awareness to staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) is mandatory; a Master’s degree (LL.M) or additional certification in commercial, corporate, or financial law is advantageous.
- Minimum 5-10 years of legal experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or senior legal role preferably within the financial services, banking, leasing, or fintech sectors
- Strong knowledge of Lao financial regulations and business laws, with a capacity to interpret and apply them effectively in business operations
- Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiations, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively interact with management, regulators, and external counsel
- Fluency in Lao and English is required to prepare and translate legal documents and liaise with international stakeholders
- Experience liaising with Lao government authorities and regulatory bodies is a plus
